Bad luck

This happened last thursday.
After fixing my car on the morning, I reached klcc and parked at the car park besides wisma central. They got this hourly and per entry ticket. Without asking me, the staff handed me the ticket, I was damn late for work oredi, so i paid no mind on it. When I exit during the evening, then kena gao gao, hourly ticket, 36 bucks, most expensive parking fee i've ever paid. Tried to argue with them also no use. So guys, be careful when u parked there next time.
The story didn't end here, when I exit the carpark, still grumbling and cursing and swearing, I turned left, then suddenly realized I should go straight, so I drived into the taxi/bus lane. You bet what happened, a police flag me down with a stupid red flag. Shit, another samman, 100 bucks gone, I also lazy to negotiate liao. Damn fed up.
SUCKS.

Yahoo Suckspage EPL new season...

In order to make the Fantasy EPL more exciting, my suggestion:

     Each team register - RM20,
Max teams per person - 3 teams,

Winner - 60% of the pool,
     Runner-Up - 30% of the pool,
     3rd place - 10% of the pool

If your teams is good enough to fill up all places (first place, second place and third place) then you can have 100% of the pool..

your feedback is welcome.

finally.. its over! enuff is enuff

Makan Review: Hot Wok, Bangsar

Bangsar is always known for being the place with overpriced food, so this place is not really an exception. To have a plate of Char Kuey Teow for over RM5.00 is, well a tad too expensive, but then again, this is Bangsar and the place is quiet and air-conditioned, thus I am not complaining too much.

Located on a 1st floor of the same row of shops where McDonalds is located, this place might easily be missed if you don't look up. However, the bright yellow signboard and the red Hot Wok wording is easy to be spotted if you are looking for it.

Walking up the stairs feels like you are visiting a dingy Karaoke bar (my friend's words, not mine). Once up, they have 2 sections, indoor and outdoor (with outdoor being a place for the smokers and you can check out the scene on the main Telawi street below).

The choice of food is the typical Malaysian fare, quite a number of choices but I have only quickly glanced through and choose my food the other day. The service is not too bad, but as I was there about 9pm on a weekday night, the place is manned by 2 staffs (owners I think) who are very friendly and helpful.

Definitely worth going back again for me, especially if you want a local Malaysian dish, which is a little difficult to find in Bangsar amidst all the fancy, western and mamak restaurants there.

Movie Review: King Arthur

King Arthur. Excalibur the sword. Sir Lancelot the knight. Knights of the Round Table. Merlin the Magician. Those were the icons I have known from childhood. When the ads were out all over TV, I wasn't too familiar with the production and cast, except for the beautiful Keira Knightley and it was produced by Jerry Bruckenheimer. Then having read through the weekend review of the movie in The Star, I wasn't having high expectation when my friend invited me to join him for this movie.

But I left the cinema feeling satisfied, emotionally charged and still griping from the action and testosterone at level high. From the opening sequence of a battle between the Roman army, assisted by Arthur and his knights, and the Woads (tribes of Britain), led by the fabled Merlin to the final battle between Arthur and the Saxon leader, the action is almost non-stop, save for a brief moment of the requisite of love scene between Arthur and Guinevere.

The setting and storyline might be very different from the King Arthur stories I've heard and read when I was young, but some of the scenes in the movie does evoke strong memory - such as the scene where young Arthur pulls out the Excalibur sword from the stone.

Won't dwelve too much into the story, you can probably get the storyline from plenty of other places. I think it's a good watch, especially for the guys. The girls might find too many fightings/battlescenes in the movie.

One night at the B club

Ever went for a clubbing session with friends and encounter something that make u want to go home and sleep right at the moment? Or regret of making the stupid decision of coming out and torture yourself for the night? If so, probably you will understand what I'm going to talk about.
Last sat, I received a fren(female, of course)'s sms about going B club with her colleagues, since I haven't been there for a few months already, so I told her I would join them. Great, I wished I could enjoy the night as best as I could.

So, 10:30pm, I arrived at the entrance of the B club. Not much crowd, good, I hate to be squeezed between hairy ang moh's in the club, if that's some nice chics, it's different story of course. So when I was looking around for sight seeing's sake, I spotted a group of ppl, some friends who also happened to come down, what a coincidence. They just went in and I said that I will join them later

11:00pm, my friend reached with her colleagues, introduction for each other first, hmm, not bad, another friend who I knew also join us. So we opened a bottle and proceeded inside. Got a nice table behind the stage there and we started to enjoy the music and drinks.

11:30pm, the crowd started to show up, lesser and lesser space to dance, did they know that the place is damn small and shouldn't be able to accomodate so many people? Apparently both the management and the crowd didn't know or didn't give a damn about that. At the same time, the live band started to sing some songs which nobody (maybe me only) in the club knows wut the heck was he singing.

12:00am, as usual, they sang the birthday song, could they sing some different version of a birthday song? It's the exactly same version every time I came. Now the ang moh started to show up, with lots of malay, indon, philippino girls around them, that's one of the reason I don't come to B club nowadays.

12:15am, a friend (girl indeed) sms me, "Hey, I'm in T club, clubbing anywhere tonight?"
I replied, "B club"
After a few minutes, another sms: "I'm at the entrance, wait for you."
Ok, I tot of just went out and had a little chat, want to join me also ok, I hoped there're still spaces for her. So I just went ahead to meet her at the entrance. She was there, alone.
"Hey, T club is damn packed, I''m going into B club."
"Good, let's come in and join us."
"Ok, but I have 3 friends coming together with me. So how ar?"
Great, now who did she think I am? Some rich guy who likes to spend my hard-earned money on alchol for 1 girl who I met a few times before and 3 girls who I don't even know them. Sorry lah but she asked the wrong person.
So I just maintained my smile and said, "Oh really? Cool! But me and my friends can't bring in anymore people."
She smiled, "Hey, you asked me to come over one, u have to do something."
I know this is damn embarassed but I was really bad mood and don't care about it, "Hahaha, sorry but what you expect me to do? I really can't help leh."
So she went back to her friends and discussed, after a while she came back and said, "Oklah, we're going somewhere else, bye."
And there she goes, what the heck, I just headed back in. As if the night wasn't bad enough, there're more coming up.

2:00am, I went supper with one of my friend who came together, when we finished we just went back into the club to say goodbye, after that I would need to walk her to the car park for her to take her own car and drive home, it's not safe for a girl to walk alone to the car park. But then my friend, who also clubs quite alot, suddenly got hooked up with another guy. So they just chat and chat and start hugging and kissing. Shit, so what should I do now, left them alone and I left the place myself? But after all, I have promised to walk with her to the carpark to take her car. After a few minutes, I decided to leave, with or without her, I have to interrupt and told her I was leaving. Maybe she also tot that it's better to leave now rather than stay, so we left and she took her car and drived home.

So in the end, it was really a bad night, all I want is to enjoy the music and the environment, which didn't work at all. Lots of crowd and bad encounters.
Lessons learned:
1) Never go to B club on a Saturday night.
2) Never simply ask some girl to join u to club, make sure there're no strings attached.
3) Don't interrupt people when they're having fun.
4) Leave earlier before the club close and everybody stucked in a huge jam.

If you have a worse night than this, please feel free to post. Make sure it's really sucks. Thanks for wasting your time reading this.

Book Review: Managing My Life - Alex Ferguson Autobiography

I must clarify that I am a Liverpool fan, but when I first seriously "follows" football back in 1991, Manchester United was the team that I had supported and followed. It was the last year the English Football League is known as Division One, and Leeds United had won the championship with a player whose name is now legendary - Eric Cantona.

I hadn't cared less who was the manager of Manchester United then, but they had won the FA Cup in the previous year and finished second to Leeds United in that term. So obviously, they were a team on the rise. But little did I know that a certain Alex Ferguson was (and still is) the manager of Manchester United, and how closed he came to losing his job had he lost the FA Cup final in 1990.

Alex Ferguson's autobiography tells of his childhood, his early playing days as a schoolkid just outside of Glasgow, Scotland. He tells the story of how he moved up the ranks of football, from school leagues to amature leagues and finally to Glasgow Rangers, his childhood heroes. I must admit this part of the story is quite boring, perhaps I was more interested in his exploits and his relationship with those well-known Manchester United players. So it does seems labourish to finish the early parts of the book.

He then went on to become a manager, first in Scotland, where he successfully guided Aberdeen to glory, breaking the dominance of the Glasgow clubs - Celtic and Rangers. His stint at Aberdeen is no doubt what propelled him to respectability. He was also the manager of Scotland for a short time between 1985 and 1986 before he was made the manager of Manchester United in 1986. From then on, the book is more interesting to me, as it tells of how he slowly transform Manchester United slowly from a team that are mostly mid-table finisher to a championship contender. The books tells of how he manages and handles different players that moved in and out of the Old Trafford door. I think most people would be able to identify with the more recent stories of Manchester United (for past 10 years or so), but I think this book gives you a little bit of a "behind-the-scene" look at some of the famous stories.

It was particularly enjoying for me to know that Alex Ferguson also rated that his side of 1994-1995 was the best along with the treble winning team of 1999-2000. I too, thinks that that side consisting of Peter Schmeichel, Gary Pallister, Steve Bruce, Paul Parker, Denis Irwin, Paul Ince, Roy Keane, Ryan Giggs, Andrei Kanchelskis, Lee Sharpe, Brian McClair, Mark Hughes and Eric Cantona was the best team assembled and managed by Ferguson. Much better than the commercialism driven team (led by David Beckham) that comes in after that.

Although I am not a big fan of Sir Alex Ferguson (I think he should have retired as he intended a few years back), but this book is an alright read for all the tokballs kakis here.

Book Review: Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less

I've been a Jeffrey Archer fan since the day I picked up his As The Crow Flies novel. Everytime I make a trip to the bookshop, I would try to pick up one of his books, and I think I've almost completed his entire collection. I always enjoyed the way he tells a story, both engaging and surprising.

Not A Penny More, Not A Penny Less is one of his earlier book, first published back in 1976. It begins with a tale of how a young Polish man in America made it to become a successful businessman through his cunning and some not so "legal" ways. It culminates to a plan where he successfully "cheated" about a million dollar from four totally unrelated and unconnected individuals - an Oxford professor, a British doctor, a French art dealer and an English lord.

The story then switched to how the 4 individuals eventually team up and formulate 4 different plans to get back at the conman. Their aim - to get back what was cheated out of them... nothing more, and nothing less.

As with every other Jeffrey Archer's book, the pace of the story is excellent. I could almost never put the book down... if I could, I would have wanted to finish the book in one go. The story is engaging, Archer has a knack of making a reader (perhaps just me) identify with each of the characters in the book.

Disillusioned

Why is it that you feel so far when the object of your desire is just next to you? And you continue feel light headed thorough the day, and not from caffeine overdose. How do you tell yourself what you feel is real? How do you tell the other party that you can't tell if you know what you feel is real? Hmmmm...

Just a pointless rambling.

Makan Review: All About Mee, PBD

For those that haven't been to Pusat Bandar Damansara (PBD) recently, I think you'd be surprised by the number of eateries and outlets there (as compared to like 5 years back when I used to go college there...).

Last Friday I was introduced to a girl by a friend and the girl happens to run a restaurant in PBD, which is conveniently located near my office. So I promised that I'd dropped by one day to try out the food (noodle) there. I didn't realized that that one day would come about just 2 days after knowing her. Coincidentally a friend wants to pick up his new passport at PBD, so he asked me out for lunch, and I suggested we check out the place...

All I know about that place is that it is located on the block right behind McDonalds. But do look for this shop named All About Mee (appropriately named), which is next to a bakery called Roti Man (a grown-up Rotiboy?).

There isn't too much choice on the menu. They have a couple of Thai Green Curry noodles, Asam Laksa (I think) and some other noodle dishes. I settled for a Fish Ball Noodle Soup. When the food arrived, I was surprised by the size of the bowl... it's huge, at least twice the size of the BIG bowls u get at hawker stalls. All for only RM 5.90++. Quite worth it for a simple quick lunch. My friend had the Thai Green Curry noodle and he said it was alright.

The place is normally busy during lunch time, it opens in the morning and closes off at 2.30pm.

Check it out if you're around the area.

Club Review: Rush, Eastin Hotel, PJ

For those of you who has been to Viva Dance Club over the years, prepare to be surprised, shocked and overwhelmed by the changes that Rush presents. Gone are the days of Viva, in its place, a supposed poshy and classy place for the working crowd to gather.

I heard that close to RM 1 million was spent on the renovation, as I must say I was impressed by the changes it brought. Once you walked in the front entrance, you are greeted by a spacious lounge, with a bar to your right. This section is filled with nice comfortable sofa and couches for easy and laid back night out. Perfect for chatting and catching up with friends.

Walk further in, you'd pass a lighted archway/tunnel (which some girls used as a dancing stage... which is not a bad idea). Once you go past the tunnel, a different section greets you. A huge island bar in the middle, facing a small stage with a live band performing. All around the bar and the stage are tall tables with tall chairs, meant for the casual and serious drinkers.

The live band performance is nothing to shout about. Quite average, and more suited for a hotel lounge rather than a supposed "club". When I was there on Friday, they played about 3 sets from 9.00 to 12.00. After 12, the resident DJ takes over, starting with R&B before proceeding to house and back to R&B as the night wears on. The sound system does seems like an improvement over the old system of Viva.

However, no matter how hard a tiger tries to change its stripe, the spirit of the tiger remains... as is the case with the audience and patron of Rush. On that night, I did spotted a few girls dressed up in nice dinner gown/dress, but sadly most of the crowds are in the casual jeans and t-shirt, which reminds me so much of the old Viva days. It was quite disappointing, as Rush's decor beats those supposedly posh places like Velvet Underground and Bar Savanh hands down. Unfortunately, the crowd still lacks the poise.

Alcohol is not that cheap either, a bottle of Black Label cost RM345, where as I can get the same bottle at about RM260 in Bangsar. Would I return? Well, perhaps, if I have a hot date and would like to just have a quieter time. But I'll make sure I leave before 11.30, when the crowd begins to come in.

Music Review: Musicology - Prince

After I don't know how many years, I finally went out and bought an ORIGINAL music CD (actually, I bought 5 - Musicology by Prince, Twentysomething by Jamie Cullum, Hurt No More by Mario Winans, So Called Chaos by Alanis Morissette and an obscure Barry White CD).

Prince's style of music has always been unique, and I've always liked his funky soulful groovy kind of music. When I first saw his Musicology MTV on the TV, I was immediately hooked. Reminds me of old school funk... which is pretty funky cool in this generation of hip hops, R&B and alternative rock.

The album starts of with Musicology, which sets the tune for the rest of the album. Tracks like A Million Days, The Marrying Kind and Dear Mr. Man shows the versatility of Prince as an accomplished artist.

And I am glad he decides to go back to using Prince, rather than "The Artist Formerly Known As Prince" or that weird symbol.

Book Review: The Da Vinci Code

I picked this book up because 1) I need to buy books so that I can reach the RM200 quota to qualify for the MPH Reader's Card and 2) I noticed that it has been sitting on top of the MPH best sellers list for a few weeks. So i guess it must be pretty good.

The book tells of the story of how a prominent museum curator is murdered, and how an American symbologist, Robert Langdon, and a French police cryptographer, Sophie Neveu goes from Paris to London to solve the riddle that the dead man left behind, all the while trying to escape the police, as they are suspected for the murder of the man. The action in this book does not come to you thick and fast. In fact, almost 50% of the book describes to you the historical origin and significance of arts, myths and legends pertaining to Leonardo da Vinci, his arts, and more importantly the Christianity faith. It does challenge some beliefs of the

I find this book quite an interesting read. To me, it incorporated some history lessons in between some action sequences between the 2 main characters and the mystery they try to solve the riddle. But because of the detailed description on some of the arts and histories, the pace of the action is actually quite slow, and I doubt this book can be made into a movie at all.

Movie Review: Throw Down (Cantonese)

I've only heard about the movie when I came across some radio ad with Tony Leung Kar Fai mentioning something about his ONE move against Loius Koo and Aaron Kwok in the movie. When I found out the movie is being directed by Johnny To, I was a little confused... because Johnny To is known to direct "artsy-fartsy" movie... and I thought Throw Down might be more of one of those "slap-stick" comedy with plenty of fighting scenes (Judo).

The movie generally revolves around Sze-to (Louis Koo), a pub manager. In comes Tony (Aaron Kwok) looking to challenge Sze-to to a Judo fight. Apparently Sze-to used to be some big shot Judo fighter. But somehow, Sze-to has given up and started to drink alot and gambled. In between, a girl also joined them. I can't remember what's her name, and I wasn't all that impressed with her looks nor acting. The story runs out slowly, and seriously, there isn't much depth in the whole storyline. If people are commenting that Johnny To's storytelling is the whole point of the movie... then I'd say there's no point at all watching it. The whole story is just... erm... less than ordinary. Oh, apparently this movie is a tribute to a Japanese director. I can't remember his name either. It must be one of his old style story telling. Just not my cup of tea.

Well, at least I saw the trailer for the next Zhang Yimou's film... starring Takeshi Kaneshiro, Andy Lau and Zhang Ziyi. There was also a trailer on another film starring the Twins girls (Yee should love this...), along with Daniel Wu and Jacky Chan's son... who has really inherited his dad's big nose.

Hmmm... when I can remember the trailers more than the actual movie, you can tell how "impressed" I am with the movie...

Throw Down (Cantonese)
Louis Koo, Aaron Kwok, a chick, a little bit of Tony Leung, a little bit of Jordan Chan, a lot of irritating singing by a former member of the Grasshopper trio.
